[edit] Changing colors, collapsing boxes and doodads
It can be done. I did it. Check out D.I.S.C.O.R.D./MercBox.
- Hehe, my pleasure really. It was fun to tinker with for two days and employ the help of the ParagonWiki crew to make it work (the | instead of |'s in if's were the main thing I needed help with). The HorV template is also not my idea but damn if it isn't useful.
- By the way, we'll have to do a hierarchical tree of credits at this rate. Made by, based upon, made with help of, and based on, which was made by, and inspired by...

- I found this: http://nethack.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Monster which has the hide/show functionality you want, but I have no idea how to replicate it... :( - Agent of Discord
[edit] RE: Cough
To address your concerns, frankly you want the main page to never be edited without your express written permission, protect it. Otherwise, don't get all high, mighty, and pushed out of shape when somebody tries to improve the place. A wiki is, at heart, a user edited system, and users have a tendency to edit the bloody thing. Most wiki's I work on (and that would be a few), protect the main page because they've got it a certain way. Those that don't, barring idiot edits, usually don't have problems with improvements. Yeah, I get it that you might have things going, but most of us outside the game aren't mindreaders, so this is why notes are made, pages are protected.
And I thought that more then the main page itself, a bit more then just "yeah we have featured articles" was in order. You expressed your concerns on the subject yourself, I just attempted to add something to the mix to add a bit more, shall we say formality and accountability to the process.
And I did take a look at the custom layout. I also noticed that it seemed... not done, as the news post on the site mentioned it was still in development. I'm sure once it gets completed, things could be tweaked. Or even try to pull a css based color scheme for the thing, making it more cross skin compliant with custom skins once they're done.
And I'm sorry I don't just camp the damn wiki making a name for myself here. I work, play the game the wiki is for, and do most of my wiki editing for three other wiki's that I either maintain or run. In the future I'll try to be more well known around the wiki parts so that I don't seem like I'm ninja editing. I guess that "I don't recognize this name off the bat" means "What the hell is this guy doing?".
Long story short, again if edits are found to be in not the best interests of everyone involved, revert the things. And it seems like some familiarization with the workings of a user edited system are in order.

[edit] Spam Patrol
Eis:
Added a couple of templates and categories to try and get a handle on the spambots.
- Category:BANNED is for the IP's and accounts we've already caught and locked down.
- {{Banned}} will categorize the pages appropriately.
- Category:Ban Pending lists all IP's and accounts detected as spam sources or vandalism that have yet to be banned.
- {{Pending Ban}} will categorize these pages.
I've also taken to doing WHOIS queries and recording the contribution history of the IP's/accounts in question. If WHOIS gives me an address I can complain to, I'm using it, and copying the email sent to the talk page as well.
Let me know if this is useful, or if it can be made more efficient.

I added Category:Page Protection Request for users to request semi-protection of their pages in cases of frequent spambot vandalism. Its in the UHVU Maintenance area and the page details its usage. - Ransim 13:12, 25 August 2007 (MST)
[edit] Any interest in Interwiki-ing?
Hey, Eisregen, I'll be spamming this remark to the other user I could find that looks like they might be large and in-charge around here. I've asked Altoholic Monkey, who's setting up a wiki for the RO universe, to interwiki with virtuniverse as well as with paragonwiki. Any interest hereabouts in linking back to RO Universe? We do have stuff on virtue. I don't ordinarily log onto virtue universe, but you can send me an email, or hit my user page over there, if you have questions or doubts. ... or, as I think about it, maybe I'll just pester you and leave whomever that is out of it. --Enantiodromos 16:48, 1 September 2007 (MST)

Seems Tiny Activist (TA) has got his or her panties in a bunch because yours truly stepped on his fun. Fun being defined as "vandalize someone else's page", of course. PM sent, and posted to BBS as well. -- Soul Train
