If you need to reach me out-of-game, I am almost always on GTalk or Steam. Contact me in-game so I can add you to my contact list.
[edit] About Me
Where to start... I am a female gamer. Surprise! Yes, I know; with a username like Trent and roleplaying a 40-year-old mage-dude like Mark, it might be kinda hard to tell. ;)
I came over here from WoW. My main is a Level 80 Tauren druid on Feathermoon (RP) server. Here's my character sheet for anyone who cares: Sheyon
I got started in CoX by watching my brother. When Age of Conan was released, he went over there to check it out. I said, "Hey, since you're not playing City of Heroes, can I give it a shot?" Well, my brother is too nice. (Plug alert! Check out his VirtueVerse profile: Mick Hawkeye!)
Markel and Trent were my first characters. They are my babies and I love them to death. I got Markel all the way up to 38 and Trent to 30 before AoC kinda flopped and my brother lost interested and returned to CoX. Then I knew I needed my own account.
Since then I have also rolled a bunch of alts. Maybe when I get unlazy I'll make pages for them as well.
[edit] Textfighting
This is my stance on textfighting. I... er, judiciously modified and expanded this from Project Cobalt's userpage, which I agree with 100%. It doesn't cover every aspect of my textfighting philosophy, but you get the general idea.
The "arena vs. textfighting" debate is a hotly-contested subject among roleplayers. The reasons are many and varied. I am not going to get into the Arena side of the debate. I know the argument and I can understand it, but it's rather superfluous here.
My main villain group, the Shadow Spiders is a ROLEPLAYING villain group, and I expect all my members to know how to textfight and to learn how to do it properly. Hell, we have a dojo and a paintball arena in our base, the ONLY purpose of which is to practice text-fighting. And we make use of it A LOT.
The reason why many people complain about textfights is because ego gets in the way, either on the part of the attacker or the defender or, even worse, BOTH parties. Nobody wants to lose. But roleplaying, at its core, is COOPERATIVE storytelling. And textfighting is a natural extension of RP. If you cannot put your trust in the other person as a roleplayer, and vice versa, forget roleplaying with them and FORGET textfighting. Many people get these two backwards and end up frustrated and shout why "textfighting is so flawed."
Textfighting is not flawed. Someone's ego or someone's RP is flawed. Yes, I went there. (It may or may not be yours, but someone is in the wrong here.)
I formed a lot of my opinions of textfighting through frequent textfights with my co-leader, Dr. Von Havencrabs. We're friends IC and OOC. We have a firm knowledge of how powerful our characters are, and we don't have to hold back because we have every confidence in each other's ability as a roleplayer. Open-ended textfighting BETWEEN FRIENDS is like a game of chess. Everyone starts out on level playing field (unless circumstances dictate otherwise--ie. a trap--but this is usually decided or understood beforehand); it is about outwitting and outsmarting the other opponent.
But what about people who are not my friends?
If you don't RP much with the other person and a fight breaks out, then you NEED to work something out beforehand. This is RP at work and there needs to be cooperation. If you or the other person cannot cooperate or come to a suitable compromise, you need to find some way out of the situation. RP without cooperation is a mess and it is not fun ICly or OOCly.
But my character is all-powerful.
Your character may be quite powerful. And you may have justification for it. Well, guess what? This is a game of superheroes and supervillains; so do I. Ask yourself this question then, "What are you trying to prove here?" This is an MMORPG. You are not the only "star" on this server. Be the bigger roleplayer and weave something out of your story, something other people can participate in to enrich and develop their own characters as well. Even if you are the antagonist (and I think antagonists have the greater responsibility to at least be prepared for loss), you should be able to weave a story without come off like you're stroking your e-peen.
Read through this section and you will see the common theme. COOPERATION. If you or the other person doesn't have it, then you might as well not bother RPing with them in the first place.
But I also realize that sometimes avoiding RP contact is simply not feasible or reaching a compromise is out of the question (people who Arena-only, godmodders, metagamers, ect.) It is for this reason that the Shadow Spiders and I also support the Dice text combat rules. While I think every roleplayer should make every effort to resolve conflicts through roleplay-only, this is a fantastic fallback for textfighting with people you don't know well or don't get along with.
[edit] Dramatis Personae
[edit] Trent
Trent was my introduction to RP in City of Heroes. (Much <3 go out to @Fearghas and @Silver Fox for getting me started.)
Officer Trent - Natural Blaster (Assault Rifle/Devices)
Malcolm Trent - Natural Tanker (Willpower/War Mace)
Operative Trent (Formerly Executioner Trent) - Natural Arachnos Soldier (Bane Spider)
[edit] Markel
Markel is my definitive main. I've since met a lot of great people within the Shadow Spiders and without. I'm hesitant to list because I'm afraid I'll miss somebody, but you all know who you are. :)
Markel originally had no personality, no concept other than a loose visual inspiration from Ammon Jerro from NWN2. Much of who he is today grew out of in-game interactions.
Markel Smythe - Magic Corruptor (Fire Blast/Pain Domination)
[edit] Darkweaver
The Corruptor version was my FIRST character and the first to reach 50. Though personality-wise, he was Markel Smythe, it later became necessary to give the corrupted-Markel his own separate identity. The Stalker was my attempt to sharply differentiate Markel and Darkweaver.
Markel Darkweaver - Magic Corruptor (Dark Blast/Dark Miasma), Magic Stalker (Duel Blades/Dark Armor)
[edit] Ambiguous
These characters may apply to either Markel or Darkweaver. ;D
Markel - Magic Brute (Fiery Melee/Willpower)
Markel Firestarter - Magic Corruptor (Fire Blast/Kinetics)
[edit] Dyers
My light-hearted character. Everyone needs one.
Longfang Dyers - Natural Arachnos Soldier (Crab Spider)
[edit] Other Characters
Eventually I need to get unlazy and make pages for these peeps.
- Sheyon Silverstar - Technology Corruptor (Radiation Blast/Radiation Emission)
- Jumping Jimmy - Mutation Stalker (Claws/Super Reflexes)
- Praetorian Markel
- Praetorian Trent
- Project Flameguard
