[edit] Affiliations

Sentinel of Twilight is an offical member of the All Star Teen Sentinels.

[edit] Personality

Tends to be upbeat and cheery. If someone's down, she'll try and bring 'em back up. She treats the members of the All Star Teen Sentinels as though they're her own family, as for all intents and purposes, they are.

[edit] Character History

Jennifer Aurore Dietrich grew up in a nuclear family in a suburb on the outskirts of Houston, TX in a nice, fairly quiet neighborhood. Her father, Kevin Dietrich was assigned to a branch of the Reverant Hero project. Although not as super-infused as Paragon, being a major city, Houston had it's share of fallen heroes to choose from. Kevin's group was given the stasised body of an unknown hero and were given the task of finding a way to reverse-engineer the hero's abilities, creating a scientific control for his mystic abilities. This would give Crey an easy method of amping up even their most basic security forces, as when mass-produced, the entirety of their guard force would be able to access a myriad of powers in abilities, once all the results from the participating groups were together. Similar to their "Power Tank" series, but more portable and easier to manipulate.

His group set to work, analyzing the hero, trying to work out a way to build, essentially, a remote control for darkness manipulators. Sleepless weeks. Sleepless months. To Jennifer, he appeared less and less frequently, and grew more and more distant, his time at home often spent asleep in a chair infront of the dim glow of a television. The pained smiles he'd throw her way on those occasions where he was awake and near told her that he knew he'd been absent, too. His sleep came less and less frequent, his dreams plagued by nightmares. The other scientists on the project were feeling the same way, haunted by the experiments they were running.

In time, it came to a head. A prototype device was finally created, one that had the ability to open a gateway into darkness. The device was mounted, security called in, as others watched from behind safe walls. With a flip of a switch, a dimensional rip into the netherworld began to form. Horrors spilled out, spectral beings, tormented spirits, darkness manifested itself into the room, terrifying those who watched it. The scientists behind the walls, including Kevin, were safe. The security and the scientists in the room who were needed to activate the device were not. A security guard managed to keep enough sense about him to turn off the device. He collapsed shortly after, killed by an abudance of darkness in his system.

Of the twenty two personnel that had been within the room, the bodies of seven were recovered. The others had been dragged, screaming, into the abyss before the device had managed to be turned off. The surviving scientists were ordered to continue on with their research, to develop the device. Through their haunted nightmares and failing health, they continued to work. More months passed.

Jennifer looked with dismay at her father before he set off to work that night. He had lost alot of weight in the last few months. His skin was sunken in at the eyes, circles working their ways under them. A splash of grey hair seemed to have form over his left ear over night, and the rest of his hair was quickly following suit. Though she should've been asleep, he seemed to have no objections to her bolting down the stairs and hugging him. He gave her another sad smile as he looked down, gently scruffing up her hair as she buried her face into his stomach. He could feel her worry... but he had little choice but to go to work.

The prototype had been developed. All that was needed was a tester... the scientists glanced among themselves. None were eager to duplicate the results of the last test. The reminder of what had happened gave them strength, and they agreed to trash the research and scatter off in the evening. Kevin, the project lead, personally destroyed the data they had spent over a year developing, dedicating themselves to, and took the devices from the lab.

He was late, per the usual. Dinner was postponed, per the usual. Jennifer's date at the time, Aaron, was waiting downstairs, discussing nothing in particular was her mother and playing with her little brother, far from the usual. Jennifer slept in her bed, a long day of testing having a particularly draining effect on her. Her father arrived as she slept, putting some things away, then hurrying downstairs speaking to his wife in a hushed, hurried tone. Her eyes widened. She turned to send Aaron on his way...

...but, Kevin had been followed.

The Crey security forces fanned out. Though the research was destroyed and the prototype lost, they had one remainder from all the resources they had poured into the project: The netherworld portal opener.

Jennifer awoke with a yawn, and headed out of her room. She froze at the sight as she looked over the balcony, guns leveled at her family and her date, the meanacing frame of a Protector standing near a frail scientist. The scientist triggered the device, opening a small tear into the netherworld. The Protector gripped her mother, and threw her in, screaming, nails breaking off into the Protector's suit. Without a word, the Protector moved to her crying brother and did the same. To her date. Then, finally, to her sunken, defeated father, who's silence was rivalling that of the Protector.

Jennifer ducked back into her room, shaking, scrambling into her closet, opening a small compartment leading to the attic and hiding just inbetween her room and the attic. She curled into a tiny ball, too frightened to scream, her breath coming to her in thin, labored amounts.

They had come to get rid of four people. They got rid of four people. The security departed.

Jennifer stayed in the crawlspace until she smelt the smoke. She scrambled out of the space, and fell flat onto the floor. She began to run about the burning house in a frenzy, looking for her family, refusing to believe that what she had seen just happened. Soon, the blaze had her trapped on the top floor, restricting her to the bedrooms. She began to tear up her parent's room, and buried within their closet, she found four things.

Her father's stolen device. A large wad of cash. A written apology and account of what her father was a part of, addressed to no one in particular. A picture of her family together in happier times. What her father had done, he had seen coming. There was a thin film of dust across the letter and picture, the only disturbed area being around were the wrist devices were -- hastenly -- stashed. She had read the letter quickly as the house burnt down around her. The ceiling was beginning to give, and with it, the floor. Flames licked at her body, and, finally, she realized it was time to go.

She sprinted out of her father's closet, whipping her head about in a frenzy, then sprinted back to her room. Smoke was starting to get to her. It was dark out. Late. Maybe around midnight. Help would be late, too, if they came at all. Shaking her head clear, she mentally prepared herself to jump out the window... then glanced at her bed. The flames were devouring it, but there was one thing relatively unharmed. A gift to her from before she could remember. A small, pleasantly stuffed and fluffy panda. Jennifer grabbed it, then leapt from the window, landing hard in the grass below. With one last glance over her shoulder, she set out.

Her father had mentioned where Crey's headquarter's was. It'd take her a while to get there, but, she'd get there.

[edit] Netherworld Manipulation

The experimental bracelets that Twilight wore enabled her to tap into the forces of the Netherworld as she saw fit. As her usage of them grew, however, the prototypes began to "leak" the generated into Twilight's body, eventually enabling her to conjure and manipulate darkness on her own.

After having used and studied the forces of the Netherworld for some time, Twilight is currently capable of flight via small conjured disks of darkness and can move incredibly quickly through dabbling in magic. Twilight can boost her immune system utilizing the darkness, allowing for quicker removal of lactic acids, in turn leading to her rate of fatigue decreasing. Similarly, she can sap the life of her foes, transfering it to herself to quickin her rate of recovery. Further, she's capable of shielding herself and her allies within a cloak of darkness.

[edit] Crey Prototype Netherworld Wrist Projection and Manipulation Device

The Crey Prototype Netherworld Wrist Projection and Manipulation Device, or as Twilight refers to it, those "shiny things," is a one of a kind system developed by Twilight's late father. Crey's experimentation on fallen heroes led to the eventual creation of this system, developed after an unknown hero who possessed innate abilities to channel and direct dark energies. The system consists of two metal bracelets, each about half an inch wide, which primarily read the wearer's biological neural network and project energy based off of neuron firings in the hands. To a lesser extent, the system can also be triggered by a raw emotion or the user picturing how they want the energy to be used in it's head. This was originally intended to "ween" the user into becoming familiar with the system, as they could first just picture the raw energy attacking, then advance to the more complicated control method. However, as the prototypes have unintentionally leaked the darkness into the user's system, it has rendered itself obsolete.

[edit] Vanguard Gear

As a member of the Vanguard, Twi has taken to using bits and pieces of their gear in her standard costume as she sees fit. Always on her is the Vanguard belt, due to it's sturdiness and ability to deflect the numerous sword and bayonet slashes Twi finds aimed at her from the city's numerous villains. Despite it's effectiveness, Twi complains as the belt tends to dig into her hips, though she was told that the belt is supposed to fit like that.

[edit] Injuries

  • Minor burns to hands/legs - Case of arson
  • Punctured left eye (icicle) - Frostfire
  • Stomach lacerations (bayonet) - Nemesis gang
  • Stomach wounds (musket) - Nemesis gang
  • Crushed trachea (super strength) - Reichsmaiden
  • Hairline fractures (fingers) - Brick wall (when unpowered)
  • Partial hearing loss, left ear - Rikti bomb blast

[edit] Trivia

Twilight is a huge David Bowie fan, and is prone to invoking lyrics to make jokes or puns at someone else's (and David Bowie's) expense.

Since her corruption by the gauntlets, Twi's blood is half good ol' red blood, half thick black liquid, hense the reason her scar is black as opposed to mostly flesh toned.

Owns a small, slightly singed stuffed panda bear, a similarly singed photograph of her entire family, and a well-worn letter. These three things are the only things (besides cash and the clothes she was wearing) that she managed to get out of her home.

There's two years of unaccounted for time between what happened to her, and her arrival in Paragon.

[edit] OOC Notes

First attempt at a serious RP character on Virtue. I've got a couple of joke ones, not exactly joke *characters,* but their *origins* were certainly jokes. Standing in a puddle while operating what was hailed as the world's most efficent toaster oven? Assaulted by mystical pop-up ads? Yeah, I think Twilight's a little more serious. Those other two have since been slightly altered so their origins aren't *as* funny, but still a bit of a chuckle, so I can do the dirty RPin' deed more easily.

And, uh, yeah, science never knows what it's doing in these types of things, does it?
