In a demension almost unheared of to Earth, there lived a peaceful place where people of all races could be free and happy. This place could only be described as a "Middle Age'd Earth" (with a few quirks), without the downsides; As in, everyone had enough food, medical care, etc. Among the "rulers" of this place was a girl only known as Princess Kitsune, who, obviously, is the princess. One year before heading to Paragon City, Kitsune's home was attacked by a band of evildooers known as the 'Praetorians' and a robotic mastermind known as the 'Clockwork King' (they hopped demensions too). They demanded that Princess Kitsune go with them to their own demension, but she refused, as "punishment" she and her family were tortured, before the villains left. Half a year after that incident, Kitsune ordered her most powerful mages to create a spell that would teleport her to a place that needed protectors, Paragon City. This is ONE princess who can take care of herself.

Princess Kitsune is just one of many willing hosts in her family to the beings known as Peacebringers (and the occasional Warshade), rumor has it the reason the Praetorians wanted Kitsune was for her Peacebringer, but she believes it was for a more sinister cause.
