Night Detective's creation actually has a sad story to it. Plain and simple my girlfriend broke up with me, and in my grief I created a hero and didn't leave my room for three days. I didn't play him straight for three days, but I did get him to level 20 in three days which for me is a record. I kinda fell in love with the character. He is heavily inspired by both Batman and the Question.

[edit] History
Born in the harsh streets of Kings Row to a middle class Irish-American family, Kyle watched his friends get sucked up by the gangs and killed in the gang wars. By the time he was 15 most of his friends were in the Skulls, Hellions, Warriors, or dead. Some of them even found the courage to join Freakshow. The only person he had to hang with was his older brother Steven whom like him were not easily swayed by the promises of those gangs. The two made themselves adept at fighting in order to run off the gangs that did come around their home. It got harder to do so however when the gangs began developing powers. Finally their neighborhood was overrun and the two couldn't fight off the gangs. Aware of this his parents finally moved to Steel Canyon, where they thought it would be safe. The family had recently gained a fair amount of money through inheritance from a close friend of the family. They used the money to buy a penthouse in Steel Canyon.
One day while the whole family was off shopping, a Cyborg whom Kyle didn't recognize and a Robot hero to whom Kyle also did not recognize, engaged in combat near the family. Collateral damage caused a large chunk of a sky scraper to fall onto the family. Kyle and his mother were lucky and survived with only a few broken bones. However his father and brother were standing in the wrong place and got the largest part of the chunk ontop of them. They died before the paramedics could free them. This was during Kyle's last year of High School. He changed his plans. Instead of going off to Harvard, for which he had been accepted he took his brilliant mind and enrolled in a police academy. He excelled and learned to be a detective. His first job was at PPD station in Kings Row. It became apparent that his detective skills were top notch. He could even solve cases that most heroes were unable to solve.
One day a Tsoo was arrested and put in the holding cells of the station. Before he could be transferred to the Zig a deal was made. The man was released and became an informant within the Tsoo. His name was Denkou Mashin. Kyle became friends with Denkou, whom helped him fine tune his fighting skills and taught him several secret martial arts techniques of the Tsoo that made them able to take down heroes so easily. During one case he was sent to solve he used these techniques to take down a super villain that ambushed the PPD squad in a robotic suit. After this, he was assigned to work with heroes to solve cases they wouldn't normally be able to solve by themselves. Most heroes scoffed at the idea of having a police officer fight beside them. Others were appalled when they realized he was using Tsoo fighting techniques to show them up. During one of his missions with a group of heroes he noticed they were using reckless techniques. During the fight several civilians were injured.
Kyle refused to work with this group and went back to the station without even saying goodbye. It took him a few days of rummaging through the station confiscated items locker, but finally he had himself a cover. He donned a very simple disguise which consisted of his slacks, a T-shirt with a fingerprint pattern and a trench coat. He also wore a domino mask and used some false skin confiscated from the Vahzilok to change his facial features. He also donned some Sky Raider anti-gravity technology. He started his crusade on crime in this very simple outfit. His goal was to be an example to newer heroes so that they would not cause collateral damage as he noticed so many heroes recently cared so little about.
Recently after saving Icon in Steel Canyon, Serge custom made a new outfit for him. Black Spandex, cape, a crescent moon insignia and a crescent moon crest on his head. He was able to dig up some Sky Raider boots and have Serge customize them to fit with the new costume.
