Flea is the 'Venom' of Virtue. Originally created by Flea (@Not A Flea Honest via Global or Flea_Mark_Evil on the main CoH boards) he's gone from being a 'evil' version of a spoof character to developing a fully explored background and history. He is a 'Venom' sort of character, consisting of not one but two distinct personalities in a sort of symbiosis. He also plays the part of the 'reformed villain', much like his original inspiration.

NOTE: For the time being this page is a faceholder for the sake of information. A new page is being prepared that fully accepts Flea's role as a reformed villain and his chosen destiny as an asshole. I meant hero.

Jake Love is naturally a mix of two personalities, that of his own and that of the pseudo-psionic spirit entity known as 'Wraith'. Where Jake's personality is savagely emotional, often fiercely loyal to friends and family and prone to erratic mood swings the Wraith's is cold, logical and utterly sinister in comparison. Where one hesitates the other acts and the result was for a short period of time the combined persona known as Spectre which acted almost purely on raw logic, the emotions channelled into its destructive capabilities before it subsequently was destroyed by Despair.

Jake's powers come from two sources. The first is himself, manifesting the natural abilities of a 'Wraith' Flea and the second is the Wraith itself, lending some of its capabilities in a symbiotic nature.

Spines are a natural trait of all the Flea species, even those who choose not to use them as a weapon. Their purpose is as part of the Flea digestive system, acting as delivery systems for a refined anti-coagulant designed to prevent blood clotting, allowing the evolved insects to feast upon the nutritious fluids and survive. Amongst the species there are those who choose to focus on their natural weaponry, specialising and there are those who do not. Jake Love is one such Flea who chose to focus upon his natural weapons and through training as well as a minor mutation that made his chitin stronger than most he is capable of using the spines as projectile weapons in a manner akin to javelins or in melee as a blade of sorts.

Each spine varies in length from between two and four feet long and is covered in hooked barbs. They are designed to crack and shatter upon impact into flesh, delivering the anti-coagulant toxin to the prey and causing it to bleed out in time. They are composed of a forcibly compacted chitin-like substance giving a hardness similar to refined steel making them capable of parrying weapon blows and stabbing through armour in a similar manner to most blades. Jake's own chitin spines are naturally harder than those of most of his kind.

As with the spines all Fleas are naturally more agile and quicker than other living creatures. This is a trait shared with their tiny insect ancestors that the world is more familiar with and as a result they are capable of avoiding most attacks with a sort of sixth sense and reacting with increased speed compared to most. An unusual trait of the 'Wraith' subspecies is a further evolved 'sixth sense' which creates a chameleonic effect, allowing 'Wraiths' to slip into the shadows with ease, moving undetected, with both sight and scent masked.

[edit] The Wraith

The Wraith is a pseudo psionic entity of death and fear formed over four thousand years ago with the death of an entire dimension. It is in a sense a living 'memory', composed of all the fleeting final emotions and thoughts of fear and death as this world collapsed, a demi-totem as it were. It filled a role within Jake as a 'half-soul', keeping him alive when technically he should have been dead until the counterpart Flea was born four years later. The Wraith grants Jake the following abilities in his role as 'Evil':

Psionics (Leadership) - Low grade emotional projection and heightening of senses, both of self and of allies.

Spectral Resistances (Demonic Accolade) - For short periods of time in this 'aspect' the Wraith was capable of fully channeling itself through Jake, drastically increasing his defenses to all bar psionic assaults, manifesting in the form of blue flames which flowed over his form like liquid. In the 'Terror' aspect the Wraith's Spectral Resistances have become a more prominent part of Jake's manifested abilities.
