A rogue scientist, Doctor Donovan Darque, was attempting to start his criminal career by developing a machine to generate teleportational doorways. When he completed his first prototype, he decided that he personally would be the first test subject. Darque powered up his doorway and walked through, expecting to re-appear just a few feet away in his laboratory. However, Darque ended up creating a doorway to another world.

This new world Darque discovered was similar to the Medieval times of our own world with two major differences. Primarily, night and day were very different from what the scientist was used to, as this new world was cloaked in darkness three times longer than Darque's home dimension. The second major difference was that savant inventors had created technological advances that were beyond anything the scientist had ever seen or even dreamed of.

Darque was discovered in this new world by Tenebruusian scouts. Tenebruus was a former fascist military power that was soundly defeated by the neighboring countries in the last major war of the darkened land. When Darque was found, he was believed to be the prophesied Sorcerer King who would bring the country back to glory. Darque, a man of science who never even considered the idea of fate before, wasn’t sure if this was supposed to be the case, but he jumped at the opportunity, believing himself to be superior the inhabitants of this alien world.

After a special ceremony, Darque was bestowed with the country’s secret weapon, a powersource that granted him amazing abilities. He could now wield the very darkness that seemed to almost perpetually cloak the land itself. Over time, Darque was able to use his new power in a variety of ways; to weaken his foes, to fire offensive blasts, and to teleport by jumping through the Dark Dimension his powers originated from.

Darque assumed his rule of the country, and did decide to bring them back to power. He also had the country’s greatest savants work on building his teleportation doorway. Darque was now able to teleport under his own power, but it was only for a short range. He set about building his gateway for more long-term goals, mainly to set up hit-and-run style attacks on the enemies of Tenebruus, but also to eventually work his way back to his home dimension with the army that was not at his disposal.

Before the Tenebruusians were able to even launch a their first attack via the gateway, they were ambushed by the neighbor countries, who were watching Darque since he arrived in the area. Upon soundly defeating the overconfident country, Darque was captured. Deemed too much of a threat, he was sentenced to exile, and in a bit of irony, the doorway that he had his savants rebuild would be the method used. Darque was thrust through the doorway, and to his surprise, he reappeared back in his own lab that he left so long ago, as if he had only been gone a matter of minutes.

As the portal behind him quickly closed, however, the resulting explosion destroyed his lab. When the smoke cleared, Darque remained, his ego bruised more than his body. To his dismay, not only were his lab and a lifetime's worth of notes gone, he also discovered that he had developed an aversion to light from his time spent in the darkened land of Tenebruus. Prepared to once again begin anew, Darque was ready to take full advantage of his new powers in his old home, and maybe one day, return back to his kingdom and take his proper place as ruler.[Category:Despot]]
