[edit] History

[edit] Early History

Like most Rikti, Soben Kel'Jekht was born inside an artificial womb on Rikti Earth (Although he hasn't disclosed exactly where on Rikti Earth, his description of his birthplace seems to describe what used to be northern Europe) to his genetic parents five centuries before the first Rikti War. When he reached a sufficient age, Soben went through the standard 30 year educational regimen required for all Rikti citizens, during which he proved to be a brilliant, technologically-adept scholar. Apart from being an above-average student, Soben was becoming an adept swordsman thanks to self-defense lessons given to him by his father, a soldier of the Lineage of War.

[edit] Nemesis Attacks

Following the events of the invasion brought about by the Battalion (which resulted in the death of Soben's father), the villain from Primal Earth known as "Lord" Nemesis began the execution of his evil schemes, attacking the benevolent Rikti with robotic duplicates of the heroic Freedom Phalanx, resulting in the deaths of thousands of innocent civillians. It was during one of final days of the attacks that Soben was injured and almost killed by one of the automatons, but fortunately succeeded in causing enough (albeit minor) damage to the machine with a discarded sword to drive it away, thus saving his life. Badly wounded, Soben passed out from a combination of blood-loss and exhaustian, but was eventually recovered by a medical team. A few days after the death of his family, the invasions stopped, and Soben would spend months recovering from his injuries. When he recovered, Soben learned that his remaining family members had been slain by the invaders, much to his horror.

[edit] Dark Times & Exodus

The massacre that was incurred by Lord Nemesis left the Rikti bewildered and enraged, causing the Lineage of War began to grow in power at a disturbing rate under the leadership of the power-mongering Lord of War, Hro'Dtohz. Perturbed by this, Soben began to openly speak out against this rise in power, fearing that they sought to overturn the collective harmony of traditional Rikti society and replace it with a dictatorship. Soben succeeded in gathering numerous followers to his cause, much to the chagrin of the ambitious Lord of War. By the time the war had begun, the Lineage of War, under Hro'Dtohz's command, had begun to quietly seek out and forcefully eliminate or subvert the "aberrant" thinkers. Running out of options, Soben and his followers infiltrated one of the portal facilities intended for sending Rikti troops over to Primal Earth. Disguising themselves as soldiers, they used the portal to escape to Primal Earth, where they subsequently took shelter in the numerous caverns throughout Paragon City, evading both non-discriminating heroes and the agitated Circle of Thorns, who had recently begun attacking the Rikti soldiers after they had unknowingly violated their ancient city of Oranbega.

[edit] Meeting The Traditionalists

The war raged for weeks, and finally came to an end (albeit a temporary one) when Hero-1 and the Omega Team created a barrier around Rikti Earth, preventing further transdimensional travel between the worlds, stranding many surviving Rikti Soldiers and other personnel on Primal Earth. Shortly after, they began to factionalize: The Soldiers of the Lineage of War desired to continue the war in order to maintain their positions of power, while the scientists and engineers who came during the invasion chose to hold true to traditional Rikti values of peace and collective unity. Soben and his followers eventually met up with the latter, and were quick to join with them. Among the Traditionalists, Soben Kel'Jekht became a well-known and respected figure, serving as one of the initial negotiators between the Rikti faction and the humans of Primal Earth. Furthermore, his leadership skills caught the attention of the other Traditionalist leaders, who also placed him in a command position of the rather small Traditionalist military defense force.

[edit] Present Day

Through his efforts, Soben Kel'Jekht was one of the first Rikti to earn a Hero Corps certification and the privilege to freely roam Paragon City. When not sitting at a negotiation table, the 581 year old Ambassador-Turned-Hero spends a good portion of his free time helping to control the crime within Paragon City, or venturing into the Rikti War Zone to aid the Vanguard against the corrupt Lineage of War. Recently, he has been accepted into the Dawn Patrol as a part of a Traditionalist mutual exchange program, having previously joined several of it's members during several missions and becoming well acquainted with them in the process.

[edit] Powers and Abilities

While Soben Kel'Jekht does not have what Rikti consider super powers, he is physically superior to any ordinary human being, like most Rikti. Despite his age, Soben is capable of physically outperforming a good number of his breathren

[edit] Greater Rikti Sword (Battle Axe)

[edit] Power Armor (Willpower)

For protection, Soben wears a modified suit of Rikti Nobleman's armor, worn by most Traditionalist diplomats and officials. Fitting his duties as a military official, it has been modified to be effective in combat. The metal components of the armor are made out of a Rikti Alloy-Impervium composite metal (courtesy of Vanguard), making it extremely durable, as well as relatively light weight and flexible. The cloth components of his armor are made out of an advanced kevlar-like material, which are in turn lined with light plates made of the above mentioned composite metal, making even the most so-called "exposed" areas in his armor difficult to breach. In addition to his sword, this armor, with it's gold and sea green coloration and elegant appearance, is Soben's most recognizable personal item. As per Rikti uniform regulations, Soben is always seen wearing the signature crimson dignitary's sash and cape. His armor also mounts a personal portal generation device simillar to that used by Headman Gunman soldiers, allowing him to effectively teleport long distances. He can also use the device to teleport allies as well.

Soben has an alternate suit of armor which is identical to the original, but is colored and patterned to serve as his uniform in the Dawn Patrol.

[edit] Psionic Abilities

Recently, Soben has been focusing on expanding his psionic capabilities. Presently, he has mastered basic acts such as levitation, mind reading and telekinesis, and has also learned to speak very basic English through telepathy without the aid of a translator. He has also mastered several basic offensive abilities, and uses them hand in hand with his sword to subdue criminals. Soben's most common usage of his psionic abilities involves reading the minds of his opponents in order to predict their movements, a method which allows him to quickly gain an edge in battle

[edit] Shape-Shifting

Soben is also one of the few Rikti that has been genetically altered to "devolve", allowing him to take on a human form based upon ancient genes in his DNA. In this form, Soben appears as a middle-aged, brown haired caucasian man with green eyes. Soben has chosen the name "Kelvin Jerick", which he views as a cleverly altered form of his surname, to use while in this form. Rarely used for combat, Soben can don a suit of hard-earned Vanguard Impervium armor, along with a Talsorian Axe, whenever it is neccesary to do battle while shifted.

[edit] Other Equipment

[edit] Mk VIII Translator

Soben Kel'Jekht is one of the few Rikti in possession of mark eight translation technology. This device allows Kel'Jekht to speak clearly in English, as well as several other languages. While the English translation is more-or-less perfect, the multi-lingual function is very new and prone to mistranslation. Soben has made several modifications to the device so that it produces a more human-like voice instead of the more artificial sounding synthesized voice produced by older Translators such as the Mk II.

[edit] Personality

Soben Kel'Jekht is a gentle, honorable and kind, if not quiet individual, his nature comparable to that of a caring friend or parent. Peaceful by nature, Soben never instigates fights, but will fight when there are no options left open to him, or if it involves his duty as a hero or general. He is also merciful, as he has never killed a living, sentient being, even if the offender may have very well deserved it. The above-mentioned modifications to his sword helps to make sure it stays this way. Being a Rikti, Soben can seem a little naive at times when it comes to subjects of human culture and mannerisms, which (in conjunction with the occasional translator malfunctions) can occasionaly result in awkward social situations.

[edit] Trivia

- Kel's voice is in the likeness of voice actor Campbell Lane, who voiced characters such as the First Hybrid from Battlestar Galactica: Razor or, more notably, the Bentusi from the Homeworld video-game series. Kel's voice is based more upon the latter of the two examples.
