Codename: Agent 3-X is Dame Chastity Blades, GCVO^[5], CMG^[6], a legendary investigator, security expert, counterspy, and sometime supermodel who once headed her own international criminal syndicate prior to her work with MI5 as a special intelligence officer. After an illustrious career with the Security Service, she retired and began a new life as a freelance trouble-shooter, enforcer, infiltrator, saboteur, and one of the world’s most sought-after covert operatives. She is now a famous Heroine of Paragon City, serving in the Second Rikti War as a double agent for Longbow and the Vanguard.

Charming, tough, assured, determined and sometimes ruthless, but always grandly posh, Chastity Blades is an unequivocally A-list celebrity in the pantheon of heroes. She uses the clipped, clear and confident tones of those in possession of a healthy sense of entitlement, layering her sophisticated banter with playful innuendos and double entendres peppered with liberal amounts of loanwords and British slang. An infamous "fashionista", she assiduously maintains a dazzling personal style that recalls the classic Mod designs of the Swinging Sixties, and has honed a flamboyant and somewhat notorious public persona as a "glamazon" of the party circuit, frequently seen clubbing and hobnobbing with the rich and famous.

Sometimes uncharitably characterised as snobbish, elitist and vain, few are aware of her enigmatic life as Mistress Agartha, a mystic and explorer of consciousness. While her penchant for expensive boutiques, exotic vehicles, haute couture and five-star accommodations is genuine, she regularly abandons the high life to wander wild areas of the world on foot or to meditate at a remote ashram for extended periods before eventually returning to her customary role as the super-agent "bad girl" of the superhero set.

Most of Chastity's extraordinary abilities derive from a combination of secret martial arts techniques, esoteric spiritual practices, advanced police and spy training, classified supertechnology, and unique inventions like her Mk.IV chastity utility belt.

A grandmaster of many martial arts, Chastity incorporates internal and external techniques from myriad styles into an eclectic hybrid she has coined "pranapayattu", or simply "She Do". Fast, spontaneous and technically proficient, she is exceedingly dangerous in hand-to-hand combat, attacking with enough force to penetrate composite armour or bust open steel vault doors.

Through a combination of neurological enhancements, intense training, statistical analysis, and pranic clairvoyance, Chastity can anticipate the position and timing of attacks and react to them with superhuman alacrity, allowing her to fight multiple opponents at once and even dodge bullets, rays and area effect weapons. A gifted dancer, she has enough balance to continue attacking her opponents even while running backwards at full speed in high heels.

Chastity has extensive training in a number of esoteric disciplines, including Tantra, Kundalini and Kum Nye Yoga, Vajrayana and Nyingma Buddhism, Nèijiā, Neidan and Xiuzhen internal alchemy, and Rinzai Zen. By these methods, she has attained siddhis that impart photographic memory, "danger-sense" intuition, the ability to perceive astral-forms, and control over the autonomic functions of her body, among other mysterious abilities.

Chastity is an Olympic-class fencer and archer, and is skilled in numerous other forms of armed combat, some of them quite rare and exotic. By targeting vital points she can even turn innocuous, everyday items into lethal objects, although her favourite weapons are a pair of stiletto boots and a very sharp knife. An accomplished sharpshooter, she prefers to use custom-built throwing knife-grenades when keeping her distance, but has access to an arsenal of small arms and specialised munitions from the dimensional compressors of her Mk.IV chastity utility belt when the need arises.

By means of pranic levitation, cybernetic implants and a nano-enhanced muscle and bone structure, Chastity can clear hundreds of meters in a single jump, and even change her inertia in mid-leap without being in contact with a solid surface.

[edit] Fitness

Strength: Chastity's physical strength is heightened to a level beyond the natural physical limits of a woman of her height, weight and build. By focusing her chi she is able to lift close to 800 lbs. with maximum effort, although the power of her strikes can far exceed the limits of her physical strength.

Speed: Through bionic enhancement and proper focus of her chi, Chastity is capable of sprinting as fast as a horse.

Durability: Extensive biophysical modifications and a lifetime of practise in Qigong, Kum Nye and Yoga have given Chastity the ability to endure prolonged periods without food or water, stay awake and alert with minimal rest, resist infections or sudden changes in temperature, and even prevent shock and major blood loss from serious injuries, among other extraordinary feats. Although her body's tissue is augmented to the peak of development and is as physically tough as a human can potentially be without actually being classified as superhuman, through manipulation of her prana she can far exceed these limits^[8].

Longevity: Chastity is host to a colony of unique nanites designed to vitalize her chakras while repairing and enhancing her cell integrity. These effects are similar in all respects to the classic "super-soldier serum." Despite being nearly 70 years old, she retains the appearance and vitality of a woman in the physical prime of life.

Chastity is a formidable criminologist, with an impressive intellect, a keen eye for observation, and a talent for inductive reasoning. An omnivorous reader, her knowledge of psychology, finance, art, fashion, politics and world affairs is profound and current.

She is also a trained expert at infiltration & disguise techniques, escape & evasion methods, counterintelligence & surveillance procedures, commando tactics ^[9], and psychological operations, applying kinesics and neuoro-linguistic programming to subtle effect.

Chastity has a commercial pilot's license and has logged thousands of flight hours in aircraft of all kinds. She is also an accomplished sailor and navigator, well practised in rope use, swimming and scuba diving, with a knack for determining true north and the local time even when blindfolded.

A natural polyglot, she is fluent in over a dozen languages, including French, Portuguese, Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tibetan, Lao, Thai, Cantonese and Japanese, and is conversational in at least four others. She is currently learning Arabic, which she practises with her coalition mate, the Green Murid.

Possibly her most undervalued asset is the "little black book" in her head; a worldwide network of contacts and cohorts in government, corporate, NGO, military, intelligence and underworld circles.

[edit] Weaknesses and Limitations

In spite of these many impressive qualities, Chastity remains a peak human in most respects. If unaware or unable to focus her chi against an incoming attack her flesh punctures and her bones will break normally. In such circumstances, a heavy blow to the head or acute trauma to one of her vital organs could knock her out and possibly cause serious injury or death. Additionally, her slowed aging ratio of 10:1 years would quickly worsen were it not for the nanites coursing through her bloodstream.

Despite her autodidactic prowess, there are significant gaps in her knowledge. Her grasp of science, math, and engineering tends more toward the practical than the analytical, and her awareness of pop culture between 1986 and 1999 is unreliable.

The Tactical Chastity Utility Belt Mk.IV. is Chastity's signature piece of equipment. A chi amplifier made mostly from impervium, it incorporates features like an EW hologram suite^[10], a quantum stochastic generator ^[11], and "flat-space" dimensional compression storage^[12], giving her access to an extensive inventory of gadgets, gizmos, martial arts weapons and small arms.

Little is known of Chastity Blades prior to 1945. She remembers escaping from a Japanese internment camp in Hong Kong and hiding with a group of monks in rural China, where she spent much of the war, but has only fragmentary memories of life with her English family before that. Following the war, she walked alone through Malaysia (with no shoes) to an allied D.P. camp in Singapore, where she met the elderly Dr. Sian Baba, a polymath and medical doctor turned tantrika with a rather mysterious past. She would spend the next seven years of her life with him, roaming the subcontinent and Far East, learning in the school of hard knocks how to survive in and out of half a dozen more refugee camps. She protected and fed Sian Baba, and in return spent eight hours per day under his tutelage, practising yoga and training in everything from acrobatics to zoology.

Around the age of 12 she was forced to kill an outcast in Djakarta who was trying to rape her. The following year she was kidnapped in Bangkok and brutally raped by the slaver Manjal before she sent him to the same reward with his own kris knife. Following these harrowing incidents, Sian Baba designed and constructed her first chastity belt, made of leather and stainless steel, to protect her against the constant threat from sex slavers and rape gangs. A few months later, her guru died, and she journeyed to Benares to spread his ashes in the Ganges. While passing through Calcutta a year later, she was caught again by a flesh gang to be broken in for a brothel, but managed to escape after a few days without violation thanks to Sian Baba's gift. During her subsequent wanderings, she spent a year with a tribe of Tibetans, working as a yak-herd and learning Kalachakra Tantra at the local lamasery.

The next turning point in her life came in Saigon around the age of 17. Chastity took a job at a small casino and nightclub for Westerners controlled by the Lasalle gang, where she split her apprenticeship with a barbershop operating inside the gang's high-class brothel next door, working as an assistant and runner while picking up valuable gossip. When rivals killed the head of the gang, Chastity moved quickly to take control of his modest criminal network, with the help of Dawson Lane, who became her trusted friend and partner. Reformed under the ironic name "The Orphanage," within two years its operations had expanded on an international scale, profiting from both sides of the Cold War - except in matters of critical interest to Her Majesty's Government. The Orphanage specialized in art and jewel thefts, smuggling, financial manipulations, and commercial espionage, but on Chastity’s insistence abstained from involvement in hard drugs, vice, armaments and British government secrets - a fact not lost on Sir William Sinjin Sinclair, who recruited her to work for MI5 as a double agent.

From its inception, Chastity built up a special fund that paid pensions to several men disabled in the course of The Orphanage's operations, and always made it a point to reward loyalty. Nevertheless, efforts to restrict her underlings increasingly led to friction, and she managed to maintain control only through a combination of charm, cunning, and ruthless action. Eventually, the stress that came from running a global criminal empire grew to outweigh the fun. With growing pressure on her British handlers from the Americans, and under threat from an Inland Revenue audit, Chastity decided to break up The Orphanage and work for the Security Service as a full-time intelligence field officer, as much from a delight in adventure and the usefulness of government immunity than any patriotic impulse. In 1963, Chastity married and subsequently divorced a derelict Englishman in Hong Kong to gain British nationality.

After controlling The Orphanage for almost a decade, and having amassed a personal fortune in excess of £5,000,000, she broke up her network and "retired" to a penthouse in London's West End with a grand view of Hyde Park under the cover identity of Prudence Chase, daughter of a reclusive industrialist. Except for Dawson, her current and former associates had no idea she'd been double-dealing with Sinjin Sinclair of MI5 for years. Given the designation "Agent 3-X", she was assigned to Her Majesty's Government's covert counterpart to the Dawn Patrol, MI5's Section C. Nicknamed "The Cape Crew", she and Dawson spent much of the decade working for Section C, spoiling the plots of various enemies of the Crown. In 1965, she donned the Mk.I experimental chastity belt specially designed for her by the eccentric genius of Section C's Technical Section, Dr. OTech, and in 1971 the Mk.II added reverse engineered technology from a crashed alien vessel. The '70's and '80's brought more changes, including work with Interpol and time at the overseas desk of the Dawn Patrol, commanding their Pacific operations in Hong Kong against the Triads and Yakuza.

In 1985, Chastity retired from active duty, sold everything she owned and gave the proceeds away anonymously, then dropped off the grid and spent the rest of the decade wandering the world in search of enlightenment. Her quest eventually sent her in search of the mythical "Well of the Nagas," a fountain said to bestow on anyone drinking from it perfect knowledge and immortality. Legend located the well in Agartha, a mythical land known as Olmolungring to the Tibetans but more commonly as Shambhala in the West, where it was guarded by enlightened beings. Determined to gain audience with these secret chiefs, Chastity spent most of the 90's meditating on a glacier in a hidden valley of the Himalayas before the Hidden Incarnates of the East finally admitted her entrance to their reclusive domain. There she was offered a choice - join their ranks forever in the golden city, or return to the outside world to interfere in the coming war between the Incarnates of the West. Out of compassion for the masses of unenlightened, she opted to suffer the karma of intervention, and so was bonded to one of the ascended masters, a reformed Nictus named Brilliant Void, who would prepare her for the time when she was to return to Agartha to drink from the well before facing the Incarnates of the West herself. In order to protect the details of this plan and the location of Agartha, she was made to forget her visit and her bonding, until the time was right.

The new millennium saw Chastity reestablishing many contacts in an effort to uncover the machinations of the Malta Group, a secret society penetrating nearly every intelligence agency in the world, including her erstwhile employers in the Security Service. Her investigations revealed the existence of a ruling council called “Echelon”. Comprised of seventeen members, Echelon directed Malta's vast labyrinth of fronts and cat’s paws, using them to slowly but steadily consolidate their control over the major multinationals, governments and central banks of the world. To penetrate this global conspiracy, she kidnapped a rising star in the Echelon's preferred mercenary organisation, the Knives of Artemis, and assumed her identity. After three years with the Sisters, Chastity was promoted to the rank of Hand and made a personal bodyguard to one of Echelon's directors. This was how she learned about their master plan, codenamed "World Wide Red".

With Paragon City apparently at the hub of Malta's agenda, Chastity moved her base of operations there in 2004 and shortly thereafter joined Freedom Corps and the Stiletto-Heeled Enforcers. Since then, she has proven to be an invaluable asset to Longbow, and is now a reserve member of Ms. Liberty's own personal supergroup, the Vindicators. Having also contributed to the defeat of Lord Recluse on his own home ground, Statesman invited her to join Freedom Phalanx as a reserve member as well. Chastity was also an original member of Vanguard's Alpha Team. After a stint serving as Lady Grey's personal bodyguard and security chief, she was promoted to colonel and transferred to counterintelligence and special operations duty in the Sword division, where she reports directly to Gaussian.

Chastity is openly bisexual but privately practises her own fusion of Tantra, Neidan and personal kink. She avoided relationships for many years, as her responsibilities made sustaining one difficult. However, at the conclusion of a raid on the Rikti mother ship, her sidekick at the time, SoulTrain, was captured. The Rikti War Leader Hro'Dtohz planned to use her 'superior genetic stock' for a new generation of Guardians, intending to offer SoulTrain herself as a war prize to the Honoree. Before she could be sent back to the Homeworld for conversion and processing, however, Chastity led a team of friends from the Vanguard on a daring rescue mission. After a hard fight, the team was able to disable the Homeworld portal and recover her. Upon returning safely to base, Chastity proposed, declaring her undying love for the alluring ebony heroine. The pair now pursue their lives together as fully equal partners, enjoying an extended engagement while expecting their first child.

Following the performance of certain rituals assisted by SoulTrain, memories of their past lives were recovered, and their Kheldian bonds revealed. Chastity has given SoulTrain the key to her Mk.IV belt, and bears a stylized tattoo of two embracing Devis along her spine, signifying their enduring commitment through the cycles of creation and destruction.

Recently, Chastity was contacted by Mender Dharma of Ouroboros, who revealed herself to be SoulTrain 2020, the potential future of the child SoulTrain now bears in her first trimester. Mender Dharma explained that the nanites adapted for Chastity's physiology by Dr. OTech from alien biotechnology were actually sentient survivors of a near-vanished quanta-biotic race that bonded with the Kheldians. Their gift to Chastity, their 'world-Mother', was to build an rDNA chain from her own chromosomes and 'mate' it to one of Soul's eggs.

[edit] Continued Development

Chastity has become active with the Dawn Patrol again in response to Lady Grey's appeal to help replace the losses suffered in the Lost's attack on their Paragon chapter superbase.

Chastity is continuing her high risk undercover assignment as a double-agent for Vanguard and Longbow in the Rogue Isles, where she is known to the underworld as Lady Chihomi, the Jonin Princess. Lady Grey has her investigating possible Arachnos infiltration of the Vanguard, while Ms. Liberty wishes her to develop a network of informants.

[edit] A New Sidekick?

Tragically, Chastity's former sidekick, Coin Operated Girl, who was helping with the ongoing investigation of Project: World Wide Red, was disabled after using her assimilation power on a Kronos Class Titan sent to assassinate her mentor. Unaware that Malta engineers had coded a virus into the titan's circuitry, Cog lost control of her own body and nearly destroyed S.H.E. headquarters. Fortunately, disaster was averted at the last possible moment, and Cog now remains in a coma under quarantine in a secure biohazard facility until a cure for her phage can be found.

In the interim, Chastity began searching for a suitable substitute sidekick, but no young heroine displayed the combination of competence, discipline and grace demanded of the role. So the position remained unfilled, until recently, when a young redhead with the appropriate name of Fealty was seen chauffeuring Chastity to events. The details of Fealty's true identity and origin remain mysterious at this time.

Groovy, baby!

• In the 60's Chastity often worked undercover as a fashion model. By the 70's she was forced to abandon the field because it was threatening to compromise her links to military intelligence. Since becoming a celebrity heroine, however, she has resumed her catwalk career, this time under her own name to promote worthy charitable causes.

• Besides her London and Paragon City penthouses, Chastity maintains a country cottage estate near Malmesbury in Wiltshire, a ranch on New Zealand's South Island, and a private island off the coast of Bali. She also shares a flat in Paris with Dawson, and has a seaside villa in the Azores, a studio apartment in Sausalito, and pied-à-terres in Marbella, St. Moritz, Monaco, Saint-Tropez, and other fashionable places.

• She rides a supercharged cherry-red late model Triumph Daytona 675, and drives a modified Aston Martin DBS (in British Racing Green) when she isn't being chauffeured by her sidekick in a black Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

• An avid equestrian, Chastity owns several horses, and leads bloodless fox hunts on her estate every Boxing Day. She is also keen on sailing and keeps her 18 meter (60') luxury cruising yacht, the Dharma Diva, moored at the Founders' Falls Yacht Club marina. When stressed, she likes going on Aboriginal-style walk-abouts.

• Chastity enjoys dancing, designing clothes and photography, and has recently taken up ceramic art, claiming an earth magic to the process which helps cleanse her soul. Occasionally she tries her hand at music or painting, despite having no special talent for it, finding the constant striving and failure to be oddly therapeutic.

• In 1967 she became a Companion in the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George for her covert services to the crown. In 2000 she was made a Dame Grand Cross in the Royal Victorian Order for foiling a kidnapping plot on the royal crown princes during the millennial celebrations. In 2005 she became an honorary consular officer of Her Majesty's consulate-general in Paragon City, granting her limited diplomatic immunity.

• She has quit smoking several times, but resumed her self-described "filthy habit" following the Rikti invasion, fancying Dunhill International Lights.

• Chastity was inspired by the origin of Peter O'Donnell's "Modesty Blaise", the charm of "Mrs. Emma Peel" from the classic BBC series The Avengers, and the fighting prowess of "Trinity" from The Matrix trilogy, mixed with a pastiche of ideas absorbed from Asian action cinema, Hollywood movies like Austin Powers, Kill Bill, Ultraviolet, and the James Bond series, the spy-fi genre of TV shows such as Mission Impossible, Alias, The Champions, The Prisoner, and La Femme Nikita, comic book titles like Danger Girl, G.I.
